Series: 40 Days of Prayer
DAY 10: Friday, March 2
Pray to find lonely people
John 4:16 NIV
He told her, “Go call your husband and come back.”
John 4:30 NIV
They came out of the town and made their way toward him.
John 4:42 NIV
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
Devotional Thought
There are many people in this world today who have broken and lonely lives, broken marriages, and failed relations with family, children, etc. Christ’s words will give them comfort in their loneliness and hope for a new life through Jesus, much like the women at the well and her fellow villagers.
Prayer
Dear Lord and Righteous Father, We pray God that through your Holy Spirit you will give healing to those lonely people separated from families and those seeking a cure from broken lives. And we, as your people, ask that you help us to share the Good News of Jesus with all, that they will never be alone again. In Christ’s name, Amen.

DAY 9: Thursday, March 1
Pray to love God
Mark 12:30-31“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.Devotional ThoughtIt is so easy to get caught up in the checklists of what we need to do to feel like “good Christians.” How is our church attendance? Did we give enough to charity? Did that ugly word slip through my lips? While church, giving, purity and other things are important, the most important thing has to do with love. Are we loving God with everything, and are we loving others? If we will focus on these two things, we will be surprised at how the smaller details work themselves out. When we align our mind with God’s we will begin to see, act, and think more like Him. This alignment starts with love. Are you loving with everything you have?PrayerDear God, help us to love you more fully; help us to love others as you have loved us. Thank you for choosing us as your children, and be with us as we try to show that same grace and favor to those we interact with. Please give us the strength to not hold anything back from you, and be faithful to us when we step out in faith. We love you and want to see your Kingdom realized here on earth. We pray this in the holy name of Christ, Amen. - Feb 28, 2018Day 8

DAY 8: Wednesday, February 28
Pray for joy that evokes praise & worship
Luke 10:21 NIVAt that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.Devotional ThoughtIn Luke 10, Jesus appoints seventy-two disciples and sends them throughout the region two by two. After they had completed their mission they returned with joy, reporting on the success God had granted them. Jesus responds to their rejoicing with a warning. He said “do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (v. 20). Jesus was warning his disciples against being jubilant because of anything they had personally accomplished. He praises the Father for confounding the wise and learned of the world, revealing truth to innocent children. Disciples of the Lord in every generation have been tempted to celebrate victories without giving honor to whom honor is due, Jehovah. May we follow in the steps of Jesus, by acknowledging the Father as our source of wisdom and eternal salvation.PrayerLord, fill us with your Holy Spirit and guide us in the steps of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We acknowledge our failures and ask your forgiveness for our sins. Thank you, Lord, for your love and mercy revealed through the gift of your Son at Calvary. We have been blessed as sons and daughters in your Kingdom, and rejoice in the salvation made possible through the blood of Jesus. Help us remember that every good and perfect gift is from you, Lord. May our hearts overflow with joy and thanksgiving, in worship to our Creator. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. - Feb 27, 2018Day 7

DAY 7: Tuesday, February 27
Pray for God to reveal His glory to His people
John 17:22-23 NASB“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.PrayerOur dear Heavenly Father, you sent your son Jesus to this earth to preach, teach and serve. He became a constant source of strength that came from you. And in turn Jesus became a source of strength to his followers. We pray that we may be constantly reminded that you are still our source of strength today. Just as you gave the glory to Jesus while he was here on earth, he in turn gave the glory to his disciples. “that they may be one as we are one” (John 17:22).Dear Lord, it is imperative that we as Christians constantly seek your strength and guidance in today’s sinful world. May we be as “one” in a unified effort to set a Christian example that will serve as a source of strength to all. May such an example leave no doubt that the Christian message came directly from you, and that believers may be “one” as you and Jesus were “one.” Dear Lord, we all need your strength and guidance. In facing a world that seems determined to defy your word, help us. Armed with your support, and Jesus’ example, may we be ready to take up the battle. In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen. - Feb 26, 2018Day 6

DAY 6: Monday, February 26
Pray for us to be united & persistent in prayer
Luke 18:1“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”Devotional ThoughtDo we sometimes feel like God didn’t hear our prayer? It is sometimes difficult to pray when it seems God is not answering. Unlike the widow in this scripture who went before an unjust judge, we call upon a loving Father. The widow went herself because she had no one to speak for her, but we have Jesus—the one who lives to intercede. Sometimes it seems easy to lose hope and give up praying. Jesus knew the weakness of our heart, and gave us this parable of the Persistent Widow to show that we should pray and not lose heart. The widow could only plead before the judge at certain times. The scriptures tell us that we have access to our heavenly Father at all times of the day and night. Whatever we are waiting for, keep praying day and night. God will answer in the way he sees fit. God doesn’t delay answering our prayer because of a lack of care or a lack of power. God’s delays are always for our good, even if the reasons are hidden from us. We should persistently bring our heartfelt needs to God. The answer may not look exactly like what we were imagining, but it will be for our good. God cares for us and is more than ready to grant our requests when he knows that we are ready to receive the answer. Pray and do not give up.PrayerOur dear Father in Heaven, we thank you for always being ready to listen to our requests. We know that you love us and want us to rely on you. Help us to submit to your will as we ask for your wisdom and intervention in all that we do. Through Christ we pray, Amen. - Feb 25, 2018Day 5

DAY 5: Sunday, February 25
Pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit
John 7:37-38 NASBNow on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”Devotional ThoughtFor five minutes each day, quiet your imagination, close your eyes to everything going on around you, and your ears to all external sounds. Withdraw to the sanctuary of your soul, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you.Knowing that Christ Jesus, before ascending into heaven, promised to send the Holy Spirit to His Apostles and disciples, pray the following prayer:PrayerFather God, grant that the same Spirit may dwell in our lives, Grant us the Spirit of Fear of the Lord that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You; Grant the Spirit of Devotional Thoughts that we may find peace and fulfillment in the service to You while serving others; Grant the Spirit of Fortitude that we may bear our cross with You, and with courage overcome the obstacles that interfere with our salvation; Grant the Spirit of Knowledge that we may know You, know ourselves, and grow in holiness; Grant the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our minds with the light of Your truth; and Father, Grant the Spirit of Counsel that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first Your kingdom. In Christ’s Name, Amen. - Feb 24, 2018Day 4

DAY 4: Saturday, February 24
Pray for clean hearts
Mark 1:40-41 NASBAnd a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”Devotional ThoughtMany in our nation struggle with sin. God is willing to heal us from sin just as he may heal us from disease. He is a God of compassion and mercy.PrayerWe honor you as Almighty God, full of mercy and kindness. Thank you for the church and Jesus who died for our sins. Thank you for the avenue of prayer and petition. God bless the poor, the sick, and the helpless. Give them healing, hope, and comfort. I pray they would come to know you and have repentance for their sins. Give them a desire to know you. In Christ’s Name, Amen. - Feb 23, 2018Day 3

DAY 3: Friday, February 23
Pray for the power of sin to be broken
Mark 2:17And hearing this Jesus said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."Devotional ThoughtThe scribes and Pharisees were 'righteous' in their own eyes. They were outwardly righteous before men. They depended on their own righteousness, and with respect to the righteousness of the law, felt they were blameless and stood in no need of Christ and His righteousness. Therefore, they were left to their own foolishness and blindness. The sick of whom Jesus was speaking were the sinners who understood their need of Christ as their Savior. Christ calling sinners to repentance and bestowing grace, together with the remission of sins, is His "work" as a physician. A physician should be found where there is work for him to do. As a physician, Christ is 1) authorized, 2) qualified, 3) has a wide practice, 4) His cures are speedy, radical and sure, and 5) his medicine is Himself. It follows that those who are sick shall be helped by Jesus. Are you sick, sinful, in need of the Great Physician? He loves to save. He can save the vilest sinner!PrayerFather, we are all sinners and in need of the great Physician Jesus Christ. We trust in Jesus as our Healer and our Savior. Thank you for your Holy Word and for the greatest gift of your Son whose death and resurrection gave us new life. I pray those who do not know the Great Physician will come to him for healing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. - Feb 22, 2018Day 2

DAY 2: Thursday, February 22
Pray for our church to be a house of prayer
Matthew 21:13“It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer.”Isaiah 56:7“…these I bring to my mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”Devotional ThoughtPrayer restores intimacy and brings life. Dead in our sinful state, we were apart from Jesus Christ. Prayer is that intimate communication with the Father in heaven and the house of prayer is the earthly expression of what is in heaven. That is why Jesus was so adamant about it. He came into His house and saw what it had become an earthly den of buying and selling, of money changers, all of which were a distraction from being in the presence of the Lord. You are personally a House of Prayer. As you received Jesus Christ you became the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). The Church is also a House of Prayer. As we gather together we are the corporate expression of prayer. (Matt. 18:20, Heb. 10:24-25 and 1 Peter 2:5). Whether you look at your home, your body, or your church, each should be a House of Prayer, a place or person to experience the intimacy of prayer and worship. Let us guard ourselves so distractions do not pull us away from our special relationship with the Father.PrayerHeavenly Father, with my body, in my home and as a part of a church family, my heart desires to be The House of Prayer that you desire. I ask that you walk through my house. I beg that you take away all of my worries, watch over my family, bring quiet where there is chaos, bring light where there is darkness and put love where there is emptiness. I ask that you let my love for you shine so that others can see you in me and come to know an intimate relationship with you. In the sweet name of Jesus, Amen. - Feb 21, 2018Day 1

DAY 1: Wednesday, February 21
Pray for revival
Luke 1:76-78 ESVAnd you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high.Devotional ThoughtGod, wherever you are you bring light and joy. Your love comes like sunshine into our hearts and removes our dark thoughts. We want you to bring your heavenly light and change us to be like Jesus. People throughout our city and land need you. Come to our city and bring renewal and devotion to Christ. Help us to be a light to the people we see. Let the church be a light to the city.PrayerGod we honor you as God and Creator. We are thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice and the church you have given us. We seek to be renewed. Revive our church. Lift our hopes with your light. We pray that your light would shine and your name would be honored throughout our land. We pray our city and land would come to repentance. Help us to show your light and bring the message of salvation to our city. Bless the church. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
