Join Us for the Journey!
As we lead up to the biggest event in  history, Easter, join us in this 40 Days of Prayer. Let’s have an intentional time of united prayer. Our prayer guide serves as a daily reminder and encouragement to take time each day to talk to and listen to God. The guide includes a key scripture, a devotional thought and/or prayer.  Together our prayers will rise like a sweet aroma of praise and devotion to our gracious and powerful God.  With one voice we say, “Lord, teach us to pray.”

You can read or listen to each daily prayer thought. Use the audio player below. Each audio byte  will appear as each day arrives. So be looking for the first audio byte  starting February 21 at 7 a.m.

DAY 40: Sunday, April 1

Pray for all people to welcome Jesus when He comes

Revelation 22:20 NASB He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Devotional Thought Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday remind us that Jesus was always doing the unexpected.  On Palm Sunday we remember his humble entry into Jerusalem, the king Jesus, and riding on a donkey, something no one would have expected.  Then on Easter Sunday, our crucified King, by the power of God and his love, walks out of the tomb alive, something even his closest disciples were not expecting. Something else very unexpected is coming as well—Jesus, the Risen Savior, the humble King will return in triumph to bring all his people home to God.  Join me in praying that all people throughout the world will long for his coming and welcome him when he comes. Let us join the “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” chorus! Prayer Great and loving God, we honor you for your power, love, wisdom and grace. Thank you that because of our Risen Savior we can look forward with great anticipation for his return.  Lord Jesus, we pray that all will celebrate and long for and welcome your return.  Touch the hearts of our neighbors and friends so that they open the door and welcome you into their lives.  Use us as your instruments to bring them to you and your amazing grace.  Let the chorus be grand—Come, Lord Jesus! Come! Through Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit we prayer, Amen.

    DAY 39: Saturday, March 31

Pray for people to say “Yes”

John 12:19 NASB So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him.” Devotional Thought In the context of John chapter 12 the people were praising the name of Jesus because of his many wondrous miracles.  As Jesus entered Jerusalem for the last time, they wanted to make Jesus an earthly king.  In this day and age, one way people can come into the knowledge of their Savior Jesus is by the excitement, energy and hope that has transformed our lives as we anticipate the reward of our hope and faith, the salvation of our souls.  Be the light, as he is the light, so this world can see our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Prayer Dear Father, we thank you for the grace and mercy and love that is ours through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Regardless of our circumstances in this life, fill us with the completeness of your Spirit so that our lives are proof of your goodness, your eternal love, and your grace.  May the witness of our speech and the way we love you cause our fellow men and women to respond with a resounding, “Yes!” to your amazing grace.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

    DAY 38: Friday, March 30

Pray for people to be teachable

John 8:2 NASB Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. Devotional Thought The Pharisees and teachers of the law brought to Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery.  Jesus, our great teacher, preached this sermon with almost no words.  He simply wrote on the ground.  Then he looked up and said, "Let anyone without sin cast the first stone."  Again he wrote on the ground.  He looked up again. Accusers gone.  Sermon preached.  The people heard Jesus’ message. Many times, we also teach without words by our examples, actions, and body language.  May our actions be used as proper teachable moments for all we meet.  May they truly hear Jesus through us. Prayer Yours, Lord, is the greatness and power and glory and majesty and splendor.  You are the ruler of all things.  We pray that you use us as examples as we teach others.  Please open the ears of those we teach.  May they truly hear Jesus through all of our lives.  We pray for teachable moments and we pray for people to be teachable and open to your word.  Help us to be more like you, Jesus—slow to condemn and quick to show compassion. Give us wisdom and grant those to whom we speak a heart to hear.  May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

    DAY 37: Thursday, March 29

    Pray for healing

Luke 22:50-51 NASB And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, “Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. Devotional Thought In the given scripture, Jesus performed a physical healing and that is what we so often ask for. And rightly so, we know our God can do anything which includes healing the physical ills of those we care about. However, even more important is the need for our prayers for spiritual healing: for ourselves, those we care about, those we don’t even know, leaders of nations, and everyone. Let us speak as David: “Lord, be merciful unto me, heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee (Psalms 41:4). 2 Chronicles 7:14 records the Lord’s words. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.” Finally, we are reminded in Isaiah 53:5, “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” The Lord Almighty says in Malachi 4:2, “But for you who revere my name, the Sun of righteousness will rise with healing in his wings.” Prayer My prayer is that our God will be revered and all will turn from their wicked ways and seek our Savior who was sacrificed for us; that we can be healed. In the Savior’s Name, Amen.

    DAY 36: Wednesday, March 28

Pray for the disobedient to come to God

Luke 20:18 NASB “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.” Luke 20:18 KJV "Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” Devotional Thought Obedience is hard. Sometimes, it can be a very difficult requirement. As the Bible says, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" (Mathew 26:4). Faith precedes obedience. In Luke 20:18, the Word warns us of the fate of the unbelieving Jews who murdered the prophets and crucified Christ. In their folly, they were destroyed. The same doom awaits the disobedient people of our day unless they place their faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, repent of their sins, and are obedient unto God. Praise Him for His Perfect Love, Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness. Prayer Dear Lord, my heart is heavy knowing that I have failed being obedient to you on many occasions. Right now, I ask that you would humble me and help me to see the sins in my life. Lord, I want to show you my faith and gratitude for Jesus' perfect sacrifice by being obedient to your will. I pray for all unbelievers to come to saving knowledge of Jesus whom you sent to redeem us. As you warn us, Satan strives to alienate us from you, our Heavenly Father, so I pray for a hedge of protection around us. Thank you for your unending, faithful love and patience and that you are not willing that any shall perish but everyone come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). In Jesus' powerful Name I pray, Amen.

    DAY 35: Tuesday, March 27

Pray for Christians to do good to their enemies

Luke 6:26-28 NASB Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way. But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  Devotional Thought It may not appear so at first, but this is one time that God has commanded us to be selfish. Holding on to animosity towards someone else only hurts us, not the other person. Paul in Romans 12:20 implies that doing good things for our enemies will cause them to wonder. They won’t understand our motivations, but kindness from an enemy may encourage them to turn to Jesus. Meanwhile you are freed from any guilt and anger. Pray for those that you perceive as harming you and ask for the strength to act with love towards them. It is better for you and might even cause them to repent. Prayer Heavenly Father, the source of all wisdom, please give us the fortitude to realize that if You wish for the good of our enemies, then we should do likewise. May our efforts to emulate You cause everyone that sees us act this way bless your name.  We ask for your Holy Spirit to walk with us and empower us in these efforts.  In the name of Jesus, our Redeemer, we pray, Amen.

    DAY 34: Monday, March 26

Pray for God to be exalted in troubled times

Matt 24:7-8 NASB For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Matt 24:14 NASB This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. Prayer Father, I give you praise and thanks for every family member and friend who has placed their faith and service in you. My prayer is that they will fight the good fight and remain faithful to the end. That they will see you in every struggle and trial and hold fast your promises. Holy Father, I pray most fervently for our friends and family who are lost, that the Holy Spirit will intervene and help them to hear your call. Help them to recognize their sins and turn to you for forgiveness and salvation. Show us, Father, how we may be the light in their darkness and lead them home. We ask this, Holy Father, in the name of your precious Son, Jesus, Amen.

    DAY 33: Sunday, March 25

Pray for hope to grow in the nations

Matt 12:21 NASB ...and in his name the Gentiles will hope. This text comes from Isaiah 42:1-4, "And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law." The coastlands denote the Gentiles, or a part of the Gentiles—those out of Judea. Isaiah also refers to "isles" in place of coastlands, which are nations and countries which are upon the continent. The meaning is, that the gospel should be preached to the Gentiles, and that they should receive it. Devotional Thought "And in His name..." is meant His Gospel, which is His doctrine, the doctrine of righteousness, life, and salvation by Him; and they that wait for it, may be truly said to hope, or trust in it. The ministry of Christ was preached in the Gentile world, both upon the main land, and in the isles afar; whereby multitudes were brought to hope, and believe in Christ, as their Savior and Redeemer. From Psalms 2:1 "Why are the nations in an uproar..." The world is, and always has been, a dangerous place. Rely on Christ. He was, is, and always will be our hope and salvation. Prayer Dear Lord, we look to You for guidance as nations continue to battle. We pray that hope and salvation may be spread. You are in control. Guide us, Lord, as we seek You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

    DAY 32: Saturday, March 24

    Pray for more worshipers

John 12:20-21 NASB Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast; these then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Devotional Thought How many times on any weekend are we in and about our community and see many people that do not worship Jesus?  For some reason they do not see a need to worship.  Many of them have struggles in their lives. Marriage relationships are destroying their lives. Children/parent relationships are hurting.  Money problems are causing heavy stress.  People are so busy that they cannot see beyond today.  Many are searching for ways to relieve their stress and cannot find the answer.   I have found my answer through Jesus Christ. However, I sometimes forget and try to handle stress without Jesus.  My life then turns upside down and my problems and stress are magnified. I often wonder how I can be more assertive about Jesus in my life, and tell others about the peace I find in worshiping Jesus. Prayer Lord, help me be more at peace worshiping you, and in so doing let others see the strength that I receive from Jesus.  May they know that you are the way to peace and begin to worship you. Help me be more open about Jesus and invite those who do not know Him to join me in worship. Take away my timidity and strengthen me to bring others to Jesus our Lord and Savior. In Christ’s holy Name I pray, Amen.

    DAY 31: Friday, March 23

Pray for everyone to seek Jesus

Matthew 21:10-11 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.” Devotional Thought How many in today’s society ask the same question? We are the naïve ones thinking “everyone knows who Jesus is.” They may have heard the name but do not know that he actually died for our salvation, and they do not accept Jesus as our savior. Prayer Father, thank you for sending Jesus here to Earth and for his sacrifice, so we may be saved and be with you one day in heaven. It is comforting to know that when we fall short you will forgive us. Give us the strength, knowledge, and love for others to share with them your love and forgiveness. Help me to be a good example to others. I am so very grateful for Jesus and your love. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
